Burns, J. David. “Will I do as well on the final exam as I expect? An examination of students´ expectations”. Journal of the scholarship of Teaching and Learning 8.3 (2008): 1-19. Although the article contains a lot of important and useful information for teachers, Burns is not well qualified to argue and discuss the topic since he is in the marketing business and he could not prove that students expectations are connected to test scores.
This article is very useful for teachers that want to increase students’ performance but finally the author did not find any relation between previous expectations and final results. The results did not work because the author just prove it in only one class, maybe his thesis could come up if Burns makes a continuous research instead of having results after just one try. Even though, the author did not obtain concrete results and a certain prove that previous expectations can help students performance, the article opens a very important topic to discussion, that can be how about using previous expectations in teachers´ classes combined with interactive classes as a new methodology.

The kind of summary that your annotation gives is true to the article. It doesn’t say much about how teachers can improve students’ test scores, only that it is useful. However, the last line sounds like a very important point because it says that the article may open a discussion on its topic, which can be really useful for teachers.
ResponderEliminarAbout the organization, this annotation does not present the main idea of what the article is about, it jumps to the results and what happened with them and with the author’s purpose. It mainly focuses on the final stage which was the results and the reason wht it failded.
If this anotation is specific or not, we can say that it is, only in terms of what happened with the results, but it doesn’t provide information of the purpose nor the methodology.
About the critiques, actually I don’t see much critique in this annotation but the line where it says it is useful. However, at the end, it says that it opens a very important topic to discussion, which may make the readers think about it.
All in all, this annotation focuses mainly on what the author could not prove and parts like the purspose, the methodology and the critiques are missing. In my opinion this kind of annotation does not have many elements that invites the reader to read it.
